faith FORMATION
Welcome!
Faith formation is a life-long journey, which begins at our baptism. Parents teach children the faith at home on a daily basis and are considered the child’s primary catechists. We support parents and encourage the opportunity for children to gather with their peers, and their Faith Family, to augment what they learn daily in their homes about God, the teaching of their faith, and the Roman Catholic Church. We do this by offering formal faith formation which includes catechesis, sacrament preparation, prayer, and service.
FAITH FORMATION 2025-2026
Welcome to a new year of Faith Formation at St. Owen Catholic Church! Our program will start on Monday, September 29th for Kindergarten through Eighth Grade. Please mark your calendar! All of our sessions will be held on Mondays. To ease the stress of the afternoon commute, KG-5th Grade will meet a half-hour later from 5:30-6:45 pm this year, and 6th-8th Grade will meet from 7:00-8:15 pm*.
New for 2025-26: For your convenience, registration is online this year with a portal available at https://www.stowencc.org/formation and payment may be made online via credit or debit card. Please complete all relevant sections of the online registration form, including the Media Release and Emergency Information sections. One Emergency form is required for each child. Online registration is due by Monday, September 8, 2025. After September 8, a $15 late fee will be added to registrations**. To register your child for Sacrament Preparation for First Eucharist or Confirmation, their Baptismal Certificate must be submitted. Completion of 1st Grade is necessary to participate in Sacrament Preparation in 2nd Grade***. The Sacrament of Confirmation Program is a two-year commitment, which begins in 7th Grade and concludes in 8th Grade.
New for 2025-26: Our theme this year is The Mass Revealed. We ask that all Faith Formation children and parents plan to attend a special Teaching Mass on Monday, October 13 at 6:00 pm. At this Mass, we will give all families a copy of the book The Mass Revealed. The relevance and importance of Sunday Mass will be our core focus for children and parents this year. We are also pleased to announce a monthly St. Owen Children’s Mass at an 11:00 am Sunday Mass followed by an hour-long fun family activity or formation session in the Parish Center. The first Children’s Mass is Sunday, September 21 with Mass followed by the annual Parish Fall Gathering with food, games, crafts, and fellowship for all ages.
Parental support is essential to our program. A talented, prayerful group of catechists are expected to return this year, but if you feel called to share God’s word with our youth, we need catechists, and parents often make the best catechists! If you can be available on an occasional basis, we need substitute catechists! If you are able to remain in the building during your child’s class time, we need hall monitors! All catechists and substitute catechists are provided with all lesson plans, materials, and assistance in advance. The tuition fee will be waived for your child if you serve their class as a catechist.
*6th Grade time is subject to change if there is need to run a 5th-6th Grade split class.
**Late registrations require placing additional orders for materials w/ additional shipping costs that may not arrive prior to 9/29.
***Children in 3rd Grade in need of Sacrament Preparation will be placed in the 2nd Grade class. Depending on demand for children in Grades 4+, there may be a Sacrament Preparation class or individual preparation may be added to a grade level class.
Please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns by email at faithformation@stowencc.org or by phone or text at 248-376-7071. We thank God ahead of time for your faithfulness and support!
